When I Was A Kid
I’ve started this new Tumblr in order to re-live the cartoons, comics, toys, commercials, and other stuff I thought was awesome when I was a kid.

I lived in The Philippines until I was eight years old. My family and I lived at my mom’s parent’s house in a town called Modesta. My dad moved to America to work when I was around 6 or 7.
Around that time, I definitely thought America was “The Land of Plenty.” Like, to an adorable degree. My dad would send me and my family presents from there like toys, BetaMax tapes of cartoons he had taped for us, comics, and other awesome things that simply weren’t available where I lived — it only corroborated my childhood theories about America’s awesomeness.
What were these childhood theories, you ask?
- I thought America, U.S.A., The States, and The United States were all different countries. My dad lived in America, which was the awesomest of these contries.
- One year, for my birthday, I was so convinced that America had everything that I asked my dad to send me a Superman costume with rocket booster shoes, so I could fly around. I did not receive it.
- I thought that America was a country in the clouds and that’s why you had to take an airplane there. And that’s also why it snowed there and not in The Philippines — to me white clouds = SNOW.
- When I found out there was a store called “Toys ‘R’ Us” and it was an entire store full of toys and that they only sold toys, I was STUNNED. We just didn’t have that in The Philippines.
